ER On-call: Manage one of the biggest challenges in your ER.
Hospitals around the country are in danger of ER meltdowns as doctors resist remaining on-call without compensation.
Dan Mulholland, noted healthcare attorney and Senior Fellow with Estes Park Institute, presents a unique solution in Estes Park conferences. Here, he shares the key points on how to stop the bleeding…
ER physicians can’t be expected to know everything about every specialty. Keeping trauma doctors at the ready is critical—not only for the health of the community, but for your hospital’s legal standing and financial viability.
Every hospital has a moral—and legal—obligation to have a list of specialists on-call at all times to assist the emergency room staff.
But as more hospitals found out that specialists aren’t willing to do it for free any more, they began working out separate deals with the most in-demand specialists. While designed to compensate each doctor fairly for the burdens placed upon them, the system is just plain unfair. And besides, once word gets out among the rest of the specialists, you’ve got a real emergency on your hands.
The ER on-call problem is one of the topics Dan Mulholland speaks on as a teaching Fellow with the Estes Park Institute. To find out more, join us at an upcoming conference.
