Altman Honored by National Academy of Medicine

April 18, 2019

Stuart Altman, PhD, a longtime, highly respected member of the Estes Park Institute faculty and Sol C. Chaikin Professor of National Health Policy at Brandeis University, has been honored by the National Academy of Medicine.

In recognition of his pioneering role in national health policy and health services research, Dr. Altman was awarded the Academy’s 2018 Gustav O. Lienhard Award. This prestigious award is presented annually in honor of Lienhard, who served as Chairman of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Board of Trustees from 1971 to 1986, and recognizes individuals for outstanding achievement in improving health care services in the United States.

On February 27, 2019, Dr. Altman delivered the inaugural Gustav O. Lienhard Award Lecture in Washington, DC, where he spoke on “Systemic and Health Consequences of the Payment Gap Between Medicare and Private Insurance.”

Estes Park Institute congratulates Dr. Altman on this honor and his continued efforts to improve the nation’s health care.
